Fort is a nonprofit that subsidizes mental health care for Dartmouth students.

With the rise of healthcare costs, the exclusion of mental health treatment from many insurances, and limited resources on campus, many students are barred from receiving the care they need. Fort seeks to eradicate such obstacles by fully subsidizing mental health treatment for Dartmouth undergraduate students.

Fort stands for fortitude, meaning courage and tenacity in the face of hardship.

OUR
MISSION.

OUR
VISION.

We believe that mental health treatment should be obtainable for all—it is our mission to reduce financial obstacles and ensure its accessibility.

Though Fort is launching on the Dartmouth campus, our goal is to extend our organization to communities across the United States and equalize mental health treatment opportunities for all.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Where does Fort's budget come from?

Our budget comes primarily from donations made by local businesses, organizations, and individuals. Fort also receives funding from grants and fundraisers. Since we are a non-profit, charitable organization, every dollar donated goes towards subsidizing mental health treatment for those who need it. A special thank you to the Dartmouth Class of 1969 for their donation to the Fort fund!

How is Fort's fund allocated?

Our fund is targeted toward Dartmouth students receiving financial aid. Each student will be provided with funding for their mental-health related appointments for the duration of a Dartmouth term. After this term, they will have the option to continue receiving funding the following term. On average, each student will receive $300 per month but will be evaluated on a per-person basis.

How many students does Fort provide for?

We launched our pilot in the Fall of 2021 with four students and have since provided care to 23 Dartmouth undergraduates. Currently, Fort is at it's highest funding total yet: subsidizing costs for 10 students. In future terms, we will provide for as many students as our fund allows. Rather than accepting more students and providing less funding for each, we will keep our numbers smaller and subsidize all of the needs of the students on the fund.

How will Fort select students to provide funding for?

Upon the application deadline at the start of each term, students who applied will be randomly chosen. Since we do not have an approved method of financial status prioritization, we cannot conduct evaluations for acceptance based on need. However, students can choose to reapply for funding each term if they were selected during a previous term.

How are payments to providers made?

Our fiscal sponsor, PPF, will issue a joint check from our bank account that will be sent directly to the student. Upon the student’s endorsement, they will send the check to their provider. Our executives will oversee all transactions.
